BGS PERSONALISED PROGRAMS. TESTIMONIALS: ALLEN TOMPKINS. FRANKLIN & MARSHALL FRESHMAN IN SEPTEMBER 2018.
Barcelona Global Squash was very happy to welcome Allen Tompkins from Buffalo, New York last month for a 4 week intensive program in BGS where he coincided with Yale #º1 and PSA #163 Spencer Lovejoy, and of course other professional players from the BGS Peformance Academy.
We asked him a few questions upon his return to the US and during his preparations for a new life at college in September at F & M.
WHY ALLEN TOMPKINS CHOSE BGS? .
BGS: You’ve just graduated from Canisius High School and are starting as a Freshman at Franklin & Marshall this September. First of all tell us what made you come over to Barcelona and BGS.
In Buffalo, New York the Squash community lacks high level competition and instruction. That lack of skill forced me to look for more competitive squash. During my search I found BGS and after learning more about BGS the choice was easy. The Barcelona Global Squash academy offers some of the most elite squash training in the world. Not only that but after my three week stay I left playing at a much higher and disciplined level along with some life long memories I will never forget.
BGS: I believe you’ve been training with young professionals from a number of different countries during your 3 weeks in BGS; tell us how you found the experience of working and training in a professional academy.
When I first arrived I expected this to be like camps I have done over the years in the US. I did not realize that I would be playing with some of the top young professionals playing on the World Tour. Working with them was life changing not only because it raised my squash ability and fitness to another level but also because they were some of the most thoughtful and friendly people I have ever met.
ALLEN TOMPKINS AND BARCELONA – THE CITY.
BGS: I believe this was your first time in Europe or at least in Spain. Can you share your impressions of Barcelona, its’ people, the gastronomy, the architecture, etc.
Yes, this was the first time I had ever been in Europe. Exploring the beautiful and historical city of Barcelona was incredible. The architecture was like nothing I had ever seen before. The people of Barcelona were friendly and helpful; I am not great at speaking Spanish and they were all very accommodating to any problem I ran into.
ALLEN TOMPKINS: FROM BGS TO FRANKLIN & MARSHALL.
BGS: Concerning your 3 weeks in BGS, how do you feel your experience here will help you in your transition into the college squash environment this coming September?
Playing at the college is very competitive. It requires you to be extremely disciplined mentally and physically. BGS paved the way for me to be a successful college player through rigorous training on and off the court everyday. Without the help of Victor and Bet I would not be the player I am today.
BGS: How do you see your squash development over the coming 3 – 4 years at F & M? And what are the prospects for the F & M mens’s varsity team in the new 2018-19 season?
Hopefully through my time at F&M I can bring my squash and academic career to heights I could’ve never imagined. Some of the new prospects for the men’s team include: Myself, Matt Dukarm(Buffalo), and Ned Mylod(Ohio).
ALLEN TOMPKINS’ TESTIMONIAL.
BGS: For anyone else like yourself that is interested in looking for a new experience and a chance to take their game forward, why would you recommend BGS?
BGS offers a level training and coaching that cannot be found anywhere. Anyone can go to a Squash camp for a week but if you are really looking to bring your squash and fitness ability to a new level BGS is the place to go. Victor and Bet offer the best coaching I have been exposed to in my 6 years of playing squash. I am forever grateful that I had the opportunity to play and train with them and the other pros at BGS and hope to return very soon!.
