During the week, the group will also be supplemented by the arrival of two Canadian-Egyptian gold level players. They are the Elfiky brothers, Omar and Seif. For the rest of the group tiredness is evident after 2 weeks of intensive work and hot weather. But passion for our sport drives us all on.
BGS 2016 WEEK 3. DAY 1. DAY AT THE BEACH.
The good weather continues and offers an invitation to spend the day on the marvelous beaches of Sitges. The group enjoys the benefits of one of the quieter beaches of this lazy town with beach loungers and awnings adding to the day’s comforts. Lunch is organized on the beach itself and in the afternoon everyone takes to the water. Some players heading out of the bay in pedal boats and other beach craft. In the evening another new addition arrives. Members of the technical team are at Sants to pick up Sergio Garcia, Spanish BU19 nº 1. More new blood, more new talent. Week 3 promises new horizons and dynamics.
BGS 2016 WEEK 3. DAY 2. SQUASH AND FITNESS TRAINING AT THE METROPOLITAN CLUB.
Another full day at the Metropolitan with on court training in the morning and fitness sessions in the afternoon. It’s a chance for our new additions to set a new pace and show their skills as well as find their respective places within the group. The Monday Spanish class incorporates the two new American girls. By 20:00 everyone is back at the residency for supper and rest. Those who still have some energy decide to go out. They go under the supervision of two camp monitors and enjoy some of what Barcelona has to offer in the way of elegant bars and restaurants; clear instructions are given to be back by 23:00 and are respected. Rest is of paramount importance if the players are to perform 100% the next day.
BGS 2016 WEEK 3. DAY 3. TRAINING IN ROCAFORT AND NEW ADDITIONS FROM CANADA-EGYPT.
On court training proceeds as normal and our two new gold level players with Canadian-Egyptian nationality join us for their first day. Nerves on one hand for those joining us and curiosity for those already into their third week as they launch into training with new faces and new talent. Lunch is once again at the same restaurant with local Catalan cuisine. It’s followed by specific fitness work at the Metropolitan. The new faces are settling in well and providing new dynamics into the group.
BGS 2016 WEEK 3. DAY 4. METROPOLITAN CLUB AND AQUALEON WATER PARK.
After the early morning Spanish class in the residency, our foreign players head off for the magnificent water park Aqualeon. They spend the day chilling out on slides and shoots; a great way to break up the week’s routine of intensive training. They arrive back in Barcelona relaxed and ready for the last few strenuous days of their 3-week camp. Meanwhile, for the other players, on court sessions are held in the Metropolitan in the morning. In the afternoon it’s a chance to continue training but also relax and chill out in the marvelous Club Natació Barcelona in the shadow of the international and prestigious Hotel Wela.
BGS 2016 WEEK 3. DAY 5. ROCAFORT AND METROPOLITAN CLUB.
It’s another full day of morning and afternoon training. The new arrivals are now fully used to the intensive level of the work. They are clearly enjoying the chance to train and play with other international players. Parents from as far away as China and the US arrive to visit BGS. It’s time for chatch up on the progress of their respective sons and daughters; everyone is suitably impressed wit that they see. Another routine day has finished; hard work and maximum effort from everyone. For those studying Spanish and with energy still left, an evening class before returning to the residency for a well-earned supper and some rest.
BGS 2016 WEEK 3. DAY 6. VISITS TO THE SANT PAU HOSPITAL AND SAGRADA FAMILIA.
It’s the last excursion day for our foreign players. They take off in the morning after their Spanish class to visit the modernist and unique early 20th century hospital Sant Pau. Built by the renowned Catalan architect Luís Domènech i Montaner, it’s located only a stone’s throw away from Barcelona’s most famous building, the Sagrada Familia. It gives our foreign players a chance to see how injuries and illnesses were cured in Barcelona centuries ago in what was in its day one of Europe’s most avant guard and best equipped hospitals. The day’s program is interrupted by the first rain in 3 weeks. This obliges us to shorten our visit to the Sagrada Familia. The initial program includes an afternoon session in the Club Natació Barcelona; the rain requires some changes and it’s replaced with a specific fitness training session in the Metropolitan. Players have their last session before the end of camp tournament the following day.
BGS 2016 WEEK 3. DAY 7. END OF CAMP TOURNAMENT, SHOPPING IN MALL LAS ARENAS AND A NIGHT VISIT TO THE FOUNTAINS OF MONTJUIC.
It’s the last day and girls and boys tournaments are held in our main facility the Metropolitan Club. It’s a victory for Spain in both draws with Sergio Garcia and Marina de Juan ending up BGS Summer Camp Champions. But it’s congratulations to each and every participant. Everyone has given their best for 3 weeks; this inaugural BGS Summer Camp is an undeniable success. The afternoon includes some last minute shopping in what was previously Barcelona’s bull ring, now converted into one of the city?s most modern shopping malls. From there to undoubtedly one of Barcelona’s most attractive night settings, the Fountains of Montjuic. A marvelous setting to finish what has been a tremendous and intensive 3 weeks. In the background the song from the world famous 1992 Olympics with Freddy Mercury and Montserrat Caballé singing “BARCELONA” ………
